Speedy implementation of e-commerce guidelines urged
An exchange meeting of the stakeholders was held on Monday to finalize the Digital Commerce Guideline-2021 organized by the Ministry of Commerce. Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce was the chief guest in the meeting. Hafizur Rahman, Director General of WTO Cell and Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce conducted the meeting online on the Zoom platform. According to Section 3.3.6 of the Digital Commerce Policy 2018, the work of formulating the said guideline is in the final stage.
In March this year, the Ministry of Commerce prepared the draft of Digital Commerce Guideline-2021. On March 20, the views of the stakeholders were taken through a meeting coordinating the views of various government agencies. The meeting was held online on June 21 at 10 am by linking the views. e-Cab President Shami Kaiser led the 10-member delegation on behalf of e-Cab.
The chief guest said that in the context of the current situation, the Ministry of Commerce wants to finalize the Digital Commerce Guidelines; that is why the views of the stakeholders are required. Adherence to these guidelines will greatly reduce the problems in the e-commerce sector.
The e-Cab president said that e-commerce guidelines need to be formulated and implemented quickly. She requested that necessary steps be taken to turn this directive into law at a later stage.
Mohammad Abdul Waheed Tamal, General Secretary of e-Cab, said, “And it has become imperative to establish discipline in this sector through final declaration and implementation”. He assured the cooperation of e-Cab in the implementation of this SOP.
E-Cab Vice President Sahab Uddin Shipon, Co-Editor Nasima Akter Nisha, Director Ashish Chakraborty, Director Saeed Rahman, Director Zia Ashraf, Director Asif Ahnaf, General Manager Jahangir Alam Shovon, Deputy General Manager Mahmud Ur Rahman were present on the occasion.
Besides, representatives of the Bangladesh Bank, Department of Consumer Protection, Bangladesh Competition Commission, ICT Division and other departments took part in the discussion. Earlier, the views of various government departments including the Bangladesh Postal Department were added to it.
e-Cab urges them to publish the guidelines in the form of notification as soon as possible. And the Ministry of Commerce has assured to release it as soon as possible.
